The NFL's Most Disappointing Teams Over the first two Weeks of the Season

Two weeks into the season, we’re not just talking about the worst teams in football we’re talking about the ones letting us down the most.

The Giants, Jets, and Panthers all have reasons to hang their heads after dreadful starts, and not just because they’re among the ten winless teams. Each of them is playing far below what was expected. Still, when it comes to “most disappointing,” they’ve got competition.

Take the Kansas City Chiefs. Just months removed from a third straight Super Bowl appearance, Andy Reid’s group suddenly looks mortal and possibly postseason-bound for the couch. Reid hasn’t started 0-2 since his very first year in Kansas City, which is exactly why this stumble feels so alarming.

But the Chiefs aren’t alone. Here’s a rundown of the clubs turning optimism into frustration the fastest.

Houston Texans

If we’re handing out a “biggest letdown” award right now, Houston might have dibs. C.J. Stroud looks nothing like the poised rookie who set the league on fire last year. Instead, he’s regressed, and the Texans’ offense is stuck in the same rut it couldn’t escape in 2023. Even scarier? They don’t even look like the class of a division that, on paper, isn’t exactly daunting.

Miami Dolphins

Few teams feel more adrift than Miami. They’re playing without urgency, and the calm, almost carefree demeanor of Mike McDaniel seems to be bleeding into his roster in the worst way. This was supposed to be the year they pushed Buffalo for the AFC East crown. Instead, they’re sinking fast not just in the division, but in the conference picture as a whole. One more loss won’t fix this. It may take a complete reset of mindset.

New York Giants

The Giants earn a spot on this list for inflating expectations they had no business raising. The franchise essentially declared it “playoffs or bust” in the offseason, yet early signs point to another wasted year. Losing to Dallas the way they did was unacceptable, and if this trend continues, ownership might want to start compiling a list of new coaches and front-office candidates.

Chicago Bears

Win or lose, Chicago’s offense looks stuck in the mud. That shouldn’t be the case with Caleb Williams under center and new pieces around him, plus Ben Johnson overseeing things. Instead, the results have been ugly: through two games, they’ve managed just two drives longer than five plays that didn’t end in disaster. One of those ended in a fumble. That’s not the step forward anyone expected after such an active offseason.

Denver Broncos

The Bo Nix honeymoon is over. Denver’s rookie quarterback has crashed back to reality, and the offense has nosedived with him. A year ago, this team rode a late-season surge all the way to the playoffs. Now? They’ll need their defense to carry them again if they hope to sniff the postseason. Nix is averaging fewer than 200 passing yards per game, with four touchdowns offset by three interceptions. Unless he finds another gear, the Broncos could be in for a harsh wake-up call.
